Police Still Searching for Vehicle That Killed Cyclist

Police are still searching for a vehicle that struck and killed a cyclist last month on Classen Boulevard in Oklahoma City. The victim was a 31-year-old chef who worked at the popular downtown restaurant Vast, at the top of the Devon Tower.

Chad Ryan Epley was struck while riding a bicycle at 2:40 a.m. on March 21. After hitting the cyclist, the vehicle driver continued southbound, dragging the bicycle along with it until the bike became dislodged near NW 6 and Western Avenue. Epley was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

“We’ve put information out to the public, and we’ve talked to everybody that we can talk to,” Master Sgt. Gary Knight, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma City Police Department, told The Oklahoman. “We’re looking at surveillance video, trying to see if we can get anything better than what we have and more definitive than what we have.”

Knight said that so far nothing has pointed the police in the direction of a suspect. Police are poring over evidence, Knight said, adding that fatal crash investigations usually take weeks to complete.

Last month, the police released video surveillance footage of the accident. The video showed a black sedan dragging the bicycle. Sparks could be seen coming from the sedan as it pulled the bike toward NW 12 and Western Avenue.

The vehicle involved in the accident likely sustained damage to its front end and undercarriage, Knight said. While investigators have talked with people in the area who may have seen the collision, Knight said the video is more likely to produce results.
