Wrong-way driver fatally collides with another driver near Fort Smith Junction

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – According to KOCO, one person is dead, and another person is in the hospital following a wrong-way collision on I-35 NB near I-40 on Saturday.

A 31-year-old man was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-35 when he collided with a car driven by a 35-year-old woman.

The impact caused the 35-year-old woman’s car to go airborne and over the barrier wall before falling 100 feet below I-35.

Rescue crews pronounced the 35-year-old driver dead at the scene and transported her male passenger to an area hospital in critical condition.

Authorities believe impairment may have played a role in the collision.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s traffic homicide unit is investigating the incident.
