Suspected impaired driver involved in fatal two-vehicle crash near Lake Hefner

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A pregnant woman and her unborn baby died in a crash caused by a suspected impaired driver on Lake Hefner Pkwy near Britton Rd on Saturday, according to KOCO.

A male driver was heading south in the northbound lanes of Lake Hefner Pkwy when he slammed head-on into a car driven by a 25-year-old pregnant woman around 12:15 a.m.

Emergency crews extricated the woman and suspect from their vehicles and transported them to area hospitals. The woman and her unborn child died at the hospital. The suspect’s child, who was in the back seat of his car, was taken to a local children’s hospital with minor injuries.

A warrant was requested for the suspect’s blood sample after authorities observed that he displayed signs of impairment.

The suspect’s name has not been released at this time because he has not yet been formally charged.
