Man charged with manslaughter following deadly crash that killed OTA employee
OTTAWA COUNTY, OK – On Friday, October 3, a man was charged with first-degree manslaughter in relation to a deadly crash that killed an Oklahoma Turnpike Authority employee, KTUL reports.
The fatal crash occurred on Monday, August 18. Two OTA employees were picking up trash when a man driving a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia drifted off the road and crashed into an OTA and one of the employees.
One OTA employee died from his injuries at the scene.
The truck driver initially told the Oklahoma Highway Patrol that his phone fell and he was trying to pick it up by yanking on his phone cord, which is what caused him to leave the road and crash into the OTA employee.
OHP obtained footage from the truck’s dash camera, which revealed that the truck did not have any defects, and the truck driver later admitted to watching an Anime series while operating the vehicle.
