Failure to yield was factor in train-car collision in Kingston, police say

KINGSTON, OK – A female driver failed to yield to an eastbound train, which resulted in a train-car collision that occurred off South Willis Street on Wednesday, police said.

Camera footage obtained by KTEN revealed the female driver appeared to slow down as she approached the railroad tracks, drove over the tracks slowly, and then collided with the BNSF Freight train.

The woman’s light-tan colored Fiat car sustained some considerable rear-end damage and showed that the airbags had deployed. Despite the nature of the crash, the woman was spared from injuries.

Video footage also showed two young cyclists who appeared to be on or by the tracks, but quickly cycled away when they saw the oncoming train.

The railroad tracks had a stop sign, but no gates.

Police did not say if they cited the female driver for failing to yield.
