Moore PD takes teen into custody after pursuit-turned-crash that ends at car dealership

MOORE, OK – Moore Police took a teenager into custody following a pursuit-turned-crash that ended at a local car dealership on Friday, KOCO said.

The incident unfolded in OKC when OKC Police first spotted a stolen car, driving in the area of Interstate 240 and 79th Street. Police attempted to pull them over, but they kept driving, prompting a pursuit.

Family awarded $126 M settlement after deadly Dec. 2019 crash involving off-duty Moore officer

MOORE, OK – A family, who lost their loved one — an 18-year-old girl — to a December 2019 crash involving an off-duty Moore Police officer, can soon expect a $126 million settlement.

KOCO said this week a federal jury awarded the girl’s family $36 million, and also awarded $90 million to the victim’s estate.

The crash occurred on Dec. 14, 2019, off Southeast 134th Street and Sooner Road in Oklahoma City. The prosecutor said the off-duty officer was reportedly driving 100 mph, on his way to pick up keys for a squad car to a  “Shop with a Cop” event, when he crashed into a car driven by an 18-year-old girl.

The 18-year-old girl, a Moore High School senior, was on her way to take the ACT when she was struck by the off-duty officer. She died from her injuries.

The officer pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in 2021 and initially received an 18-year prison sentence, but is now set to face only a 9-year prison sentence.
