3 Rosston firefighters hospitalized following rollover collision near OK-KS border

NEAR ROSSTON, OK – Three volunteer firefighters were transported to a hospital after a rollover collision near the Oklahoma and Kansas border on Tuesday, KSN said.

The incident occurred when one firefighter, driving a Rosston Volunteer Fire Department fire engine truck, drove through a pasture between Rosston and Englewood, Kansas and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and fall into a burning canyon. The driver’s visibility was reduced due to the thick smoke, Oklahoma Highway Patrol learned.

The impact of the collision caused the driver to become trapped inside the truck, and two other Rosston firefighters, who were on the back of the truck, were ejected.

Other first responders found the driver and the two other firefighters and rescued them from the canyon.

The driver suffered second-degree burns to his upper body. He, along with the other firefighters, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The fire engine truck was completely destroyed by the fire.

The Rosston Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene of the still ongoing Ranger Road Fire, which is affecting Beaver and Harper counties in Oklahoma and Meade, Clark, and Comanche counties in Kansas. Recent data shows that it has burned 283,283 acres. At this time, only 20% of the fire has been contained.
