LONGTOWN, OK – Two people were hurt in a collision involving an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper car in Longtown on Monday, Koco News 5 reports.

The incident unfolded around 10 a.m. on State Highway 9 when one driver, who was attempting to turn into a private driveway, struck the OHP trooper’s car. The OHP trooper had attempted to pass them on the left, with activated sirens and lights, but was unable to do so. Once the two vehicles made contact, the trooper’s vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest.

The impact of the collision completely destroyed the trooper’s car and left the trooper pinned inside, warranting a response from fire crews, who freed him.

Once the extrication was completed, EMS crews rushed the OHP trooper to a hospital in Tulsa, where he was treated for his injuries and released on Monday.

The driver who struck the trooper’s vehicle also sustained minor injuries, but it’s unclear if they were hospitalized. We also do not know whether they were cited for their involvement in the collision.

OHP said prior to the collision, the OHP trooper who was hospitalized was on his way to respond to a separate injury crash involving an overturned trash truck. We don’t know the specifics of that particular truck rollover crash, but we will report on the incident once we find out more.
