CANADIAN COUNTY, OK – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the details behind a rollover crash that killed a 75-year-old man last Sunday, Sept 14.

OHP told KOCO that the collision happened after the 75-year-old man lost control of his Ford Ranger while driving west on Apache Street, drifted off the road, and crashed into a fence near Richland Road Northwest. The truck rolled over and landed in a creek.

The elderly man, a Piedmont local, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

OHP said no other vehicles were involved and is actively working to determine why the Piedmont man lost control of his vehicle.

Pursuit-turned-collision in Ardmore sends OHP trooper to hospital

ARDMORE, OK – An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper had to go to a hospital following a pursuit-turned-collision on Monday, KOCO reports.

The events unfolded when a suspect, who was accused of shoplifting, had declined to slow down for Ardmore police and drove erratically in an attempt to ditch them. As the pursuit persisted, police contacted OHP for backup, and the trooper made it his mission to catch the suspect.

The trooper set up a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) with the intent of catching the suspect. In TVI, a law enforcement officer would rear-end the quarter panel of a suspect’s vehicle, which would cause the suspect’s vehicle to spin sideways and end the pursuit. However, when the trooper pursued the TVI with the intent of ending this particular pursuit, the vehicles became entangled and left the road.

The force of the crash caused the trooper’s vehicle to leave the road, hit a culvert, and then overturn several times. The trooper became entrapped and required extrication. Ardmore police officers rushed to his aid and were able to extricate him prior to his vehicle catching on fire.

The impact of the collision also left the suspect with unspecified injuries. They were sent to the hospital for treatment and then booked into the Carter County Jail.
