The ammonia release sickened dozens of hotel guests and first responders. Police treated 34 people locally and transported 11 more to Oklahoma City area hospitals, with several suffering severe injuries and requiring intensive care. Five responding officers suffered chemical burns to their airways. Local responders evacuated 500 to 1,000 people from a local residential area, closed schools, and issued a shelter-in-place order that lasted into the next morning.
